My work history

Driven by wanting to make a difference, the first thirty years of my working life was in education. As a teacher and education adviser for equality anti-bullying and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education, I advocated for children and young people’s health and wellbeing. I believe that to learn, children and young people and the adults supporting them need to feel well, valued and that they belong. I worked in partnerships with colleagues nationally and locally, in schools, health and the community settings and delivered to a range of audiences.

Alongside working in education, I trained and volunteered as a trustee, counsellor, workplace coach, workplace mentor and community mediator and in different stages of my life have myself benefited from counselling, therapy and coaching.

In May 2022, I made the transition to becoming a full-time coach, bringing with me my wealth of experience as an educator, trainer, volunteer, parent, and friend. I am dedicated to creating a safe environment to discuss sensitive topics and to practicing in a manner that acknowledges and addresses inequalities and supports inclusion.

About me

A photo of Sam Beal, up on top of some rocks, arms outstretched, the sky is blue.

In mid-life and menopause, I have been developing a range of strategies and techniques to help me manage the challenges and uncertainty of work, family, wellbeing and the world we live in. I practice gratitude, meditation and yoga and enjoy moving my body in ways which feel good. I enjoy spending time with friends, volunteering, reading, listening to podcasts, travel and rest. I am learning to speak Spanish.

As a person, I am both confident and fearful I am not good enough. I am intuitive and sometimes clumsy. I am curious and sometimes opinionated. I am hard on myself, but learning to be softer, lighter and kinder. I am aware of my privilege and how lucky I am and know that there have been and still will be hard times. I am a skilled, compassionate coach and know I have more to learn. I both despair at the inequalities in the world and have hope.

Coaching, both receiving coaching and learning to be a coach has been and continues to be one part of how I work to feel well in an unwell world, be my best self and care for others. I am passionate about coaching others to wellness, transformation or just to be.
